The Photographers what? Ephemeris? What are you talking about?
Have you ever been out on a photo shoot and said to yourself “This would be a great shot if the sun was only further south”? “or the moon was further north”? or “not behind that mountain right now”? Or… “When does the sun rise?”.
As Wikipedia says “An ephemeris is a table of values that gives the positions of astronomical objects in the sky at a given time or times.” In other words, where is the sun, moon, mars, etc. at given dates and/or times.
Stephen Trainor creator of “The Photographers Ephemeris” (TPE) has a cool application that I have used for scouting out locations for landscape shoots. So out of curiousity I went to Johnston Lake in Banff National Park for a shoot. I did all my research using TPE wrote down some notes and headed off for the shoot. Well TPE provided the details exactly what nature provided… sun set at the time TPE said it would behind that mountain.
I could go into great detail about how TPE works but Stephen has provided videos and lots of instructions on how to use the software. Oh, and don’t forget it’s available for the iPhone as well.
