Too often I see people with cameras in their hands shooting standing up and not changing their angle of their shooting. Shooting at different angles can prove to add some additional drama to a photo.
Shooting low. Get down… real low. It may require you to lay on the ground, or hang the camera from your hand and shooting freestyle (if you do this don’t forget to use some good bracing techniques).
In this shot, the children in Kenya are playing a game where two different teams would run with a ribbon in their hand to a rock laying on the ground and drop their pink ribbon and run back to their team mates to tag up before the next child would run. Here I was crouched down with my camera pre-focused with ample depth of field. As you can see the camera is only a few inches away from the rock.
In this next shot we are at a medical clinic. I again crouched down and shot. Voila! I like this much better than many that would be found in a standing position.
In this next shot I simply grabbed my point & shoot and set it to self timer and laid it on the ground where almost instantly all the children hovered around it to get into the shot… it’s almost like they knew what was happening.
Shoot at different angles whether it be up, down or any angle you like. Give it a try… you’ll be surprised by the results. Questions? Feel free to comment or come join our forum! Make sure you check out our most popular post: Rule Of Thirds
