New Canon 60D

Canon 60D

Canon announced a new EOS 60D body.  This 18.0 Megapixel camera is their first with an articulating rear  LCD monitor for easy low or high angle viewing or when using the video capabilities of the camera.  This camera fits right between the EOS T2i and the 7D with a leaning more towards the entry level user vs. the advanced amateur.  The camera has a frame rate of 5.3 frames per second up to 58 shots full resolution and an ISO range of 100 to 6400.  The 60D loses its magnesium alloy body found in the 50D and replaced with a plastic body.   Video can be recorded in 1080p at 20/25/24 fps and 720p at 60/50 fps.

New L series Lenses

Canon releases 4 new L series lenses (Canon’s best):

  • 8 – 15mm Fisheye f/4 (yes that is a fisheye zoom)  Very impressive.
  • 70 – 300mm f/4 – 5.6 IS
  • 300mm f/2.8 IS II
  • 400mm f/2.8 IS II

In addition Canon is releasing their 3rd generation of teleconverters (1.4X III and the 2.0x III).

Canon also mentions new 500mm f/4 and 600mm f/4 lenses that will have improved dust-proff and moisture-proof performance for those facing harsh shooting conditions.

So the question of the day is, where is a replacement for the long overdue 100 – 400mm f/4.5 – 5.6?
